Sweden: Four Workshops with Mónica Vedia in Uppsala

30 de August de 2025
On August 30th and 31st, 2025, I had the great pleasure of traveling from Madrid to Uppsala, Sweden, to share four dynamic and inspiring taiko workshops organized by Taiko Shin Kai in collaboration with Budohuset.
It was a weekend full of rhythm, movement, and connection — exploring taiko from its foundations to its expressive and performative side. Participants of all levels and backgrounds came together, creating an atmosphere of learning and community that filled me with joy and gratitude.

The Workshops

  1. Kihon TaikoMon An introduction to TaikoMon’s core techniques and fundamentals — focusing on efficient movement, coordination, and injury prevention, connecting playing with body and breath.
  2. Hachijou A journey into the traditional style from Hachijou Jima island — with its improvisational rhythms and free, expressive spirit.
  3. TaikOn Stage: An exploration of body awareness and stage confidence — applying acting techniques to enhance taiko performance and presence.
  4. DokoKara Inspired by Yuta Kato’s composition, we played with the flow and energy of movement — where does it come from, and where does it go?
It was an absolute privilege to share this experience with so many passionate taiko players. A huge thank you to Taiko Shin Kai, Soo-Im, Ralf, Jasmine, Mary, and Budohuset for their support, energy, and for making this special event possible.
For me, taiko is visual music in motion — a multidisciplinary art form that connects body, mind, and spirit through vibration, breath, voice, and movement. Each encounter like this reaffirms my desire to keep sharing this beautiful art form with the world.
Thank you, Sweden, for your warmth, energy, and passion. See you soon — and may the taiko keep beating strong! 🇸🇪🥁✨
